Burglars Targeted 2 Beloved Teachers So the Community Stepped into Make Things Right

A community in northern California has come together in a major way, raising thousands of dollars for two teachers who were the victims of a burglary.

Sin has brought about havoc and ruin in this world. Every area of life has been impacted by mankind’s selfish, sinful desires and deeds in one way or another. But even when sin and tragedy strike, people have an incredible ability to set their differences aside and help their fellow man.

Nearly 100 people in a town near Sacramento, California, have shown two teachers, who had their home burglarized, Christ-like love. Those generous people have donated more than $10,000 to help replace some of the items stolen from Karen Pollard and her husband, Rick Gott, according to People.

The two long-time teachers are described as pillars of the community who “have selflessly dedicated over 25 years of their” lives to students, their colleagues and the Natomas community. 

Karen and Rick, who both teach at Natomas Charter School, were away, supervising a three-day class trip to Oregon in early October when they received a surprising and devastating call, ABC 10 reports.

They were informed by a neighbor that their home had been broken into and burglarized. 

Karen, in an interview with KRCA, said the two burglary suspects “spent three hours emptying our house.”

The criminals took most of the couple’s clothes and their computers. Karen’s jewelry and Rick’s two guitars and all of their electronic equipment were also stolen. In all, the value of the items stolen is more than $25,000. 

Community Raises Thousands For The Two Beloved Teachers

That massive figure also doesn’t include tax returns and other items containing personal, sensitive information. 

“It was devastating: the things I can never replace,” Karen said. “The losses. The grief over this is daily because we keep reaching for things that aren’t there.”

To make matters worse, most of the items taken in the robbery are unlikely to be covered by insurance, according to Karen.

That’s when one of Rick and Karen’s co-workers got busy. Sarah Winter started up a GoFundMe page to help the couple try and replace some of the stolen items.

Originally, Sarah set a goal of $10,000 for the couple, but that has since been met and exceeded. Currently, the amount raised stands at $10,200.

“In situations like these, the power of community support can make a significant difference,” Sarah wrote on the page. “This is just one small way we can give back to them everything they have done for others.”
