Jesus is in vv.9-18 advocating that believers live such a normal life that unbelievers are drawn toward the Father and Jesus and not hindered by the believer themselves. When a believer lives like this, God has the opportunity to use bless them and to use their life to bring glory to Himself! Believers are taught how to Worship Appropriately in vv.9-13 (since prayer is an act of worship), to Forgive Openly in vv.14-15 (we do not obligate God to forgive us if we forgive others; our forgiveness is to emanate from a heart that has experienced forgiveness), and we are to Fast Privately in vv.16-18 (we are not to act "weird" when we obey; our obedience is for an audience of one).
