The Ghost Of Christmas Past

The Ghost Of Christmas Past

(Lyrics in description)

"My name is Dusty Rose and I tell stories. It’s how I best communicate, and I’d like to tell you a short story. It’s a story of a girl who, about twelve years ago, had forgotten how to feel hope.

She stood in the back of the sanctuary singing traditional Christmas songs and holding the traditional candle with all the traditional unity and felt so completely alone that she wanted to hurt herself. She didn’t want to keep living if everything hurt like this all the time.

"In time, though, hope became visible again. Through people and circumstances God brought into this girl’s life, hope became a solid anchor to hold onto. The girl learned, as time passed, that hope was there even when it was too dark to see it.

"And so the girl returned every year to the physical place where she had last stood, anchorless, to commemorate survival and hope. Because sometimes you need to look back and remember how dark it has been and what you have survived so you can continue moving forward."

GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST (A Christmas Carol)
Dear Ghost of Christmas Me Long Past
There's far too much to tell
I heard you crying in the back
And came to wish you well

While all around the carols swell
There's hope in every heart
But stone-faced you sit, dark inside
A statue set apart

My dear, you cannot hear me now
I truly wish you could
For so much joy has blossomed since
You moved from where I stood

Your heart will break, your soul will soar
You'll weep until you sing
This darkness will become a light
This chain a gleaming wing

And you will learn beyond a doubt
That you are loved and known
That healing comes from barren lands
Where love has overflown

PIANO SOLO (B first and then A)

I cannot linger long, my dear
For you are but the past
I bid you Christmas once again
For one more year has passed

I kiss your face as you fade out
And where you stood I stand
We are alive and we are well
And held in Healing Hands
(fade into opening bars of Auld Lang Syne)
