It’s been a household argument since the invention of dishwashers: how to load them properly. After you argue about which cycle to use and the best detergent, the next question is, where does everything go? Babs, a 73-year-old grandma, goes viral with funny dishwasher hacks. 

Babs is a grandmother of eight and recently threw down the gauntlet in terms of dos and don’ts of loading. She dishes out her tips of where the cups go, wooden utensils, and she even shows you how to lower the top rack of your dishwasher. I didn’t even know dishwasher racks could do that!  Her funny, albeit good cleaning hacks TikTok video went viral, garnering thousands of views.

"Babs is here to teach you the proper way to load your dishwasher so that each and every dish comes out sparkling clean," she said. 

Tip 1: Babs advised not to rinse the dishes. Instead, scrape them. This saves water and gives the detergent something to adhere to. 

Tip 2: Don’t put wooden items like cutting boards or wooden spoons into the dishwasher. Apparently, they don’t belong there. It ruins them by stripping the oil from them. As for large kitchen knives, she says absolutely not! 

Tip 3: Cups go on top nestled inside the prongs–not over the top of the prongs. But if you have wine glasses or other fragile items, they go over the prongs and need to be secured. 

Tip 4: Bowls also go on the top shelf. Any cooking utensils should be nestled on the top shelf between everything. 

Tip 5: Ensure the spinning arm spray isn’t obstructed by dishes on the lower shelf.
