Life-Saving Tips To Keep Children Safe In The Pool This Summer
Experts share life-saving tips that all caregivers need to remember while children are in the pool.
As summer approaches, children and their families will flock to pools and other areas of water for fun and recreation. While swimming pools are a great place to cool down during the hot summer months, they can also be a place of great danger.
Drowning is the number one cause of death for children age 1 to 4. Many times, parents or caregivers are close to a child when the incident occurs. Recently, security cameras captured 3-year-old Kayli swimming at a community pool with her sister, Jayla. Kayli was in the shallow end when she tried to jump into a plastic floating tube.
That’s when she flips over and is trapped underwater by the float. Even when she is able to free herself, Kayli struggles to stay above the water. Jayla noticed the scary incident and rushed to her sister’s side. All of this took place in a matter of seconds. When she was pulled from the water, a manager administered CPR to Kayli’s lifeless body until first responders could arrive.
Thankfully, they were able to revive the young girl but the incident is an important reminder to us all. After this swimming experts share some helpful tips for pool safety. Plastic floats are not safe unless a parent or caregiver is present. And someone should always remain within an arms length of a child that cannot swim. These tips may be simple but they could save a life when danger arises.
