Aunt’s Life-Saving Gift Gives 2-Year-Old a Second Chance After Cancer Battle

Did you know there was such a thing as a living-donor liver transplant? I didn’t know until I heard about this aunt’s life-saving gift that gave a 2-year-old a second chance at life after a hard-fought cancer battle.

The gift of life is so precious, and many of us know deep down that if we don’t have our health, nothing else really matters. That’s why this story settles so tenderly in the heart. Little Crew of Ohio was just a baby—only 11 months old—when his family heard the devastating news that he had stage 4 cancer.

The World Changed Overnight

Their world shifted in an instant, filled with fear, uncertainty, and prayers whispered through tears. But in the middle of that heartbreak, something extraordinary happened. His aunt Taylor stepped forward because love compelled her to say yes. She donated a portion of her liver, giving a literal piece of herself so Crew could live, and through her selfless act, what once felt impossible became a miracle unfolding right before their eyes.

“I felt like I was meant to be the one to do this for him. I’ve always wanted to help people and do something really meaningful, so to get the chance to do this for someone close to me made it so special,” his aunt Taylor said.

It’s almost too much to take in, isn’t it? How do you measure that kind of love? This beautiful aunt didn’t just offer support—she gave life, a second chance, more birthdays, more laughter, more moments that once felt so far out of reach.

The Living Donor Transplant Was Successful

And today, that little boy is thriving—healthy, smiling, living the life that once felt so uncertain, all because someone loved him enough to say, “Take what you need from me so you can stay.” It’s the kind of story that brings tears to your eyes because it reminds us what truly matters.

Watching the video of Crew ringing the cancer bell will leave you misty-eyed. Now he has a second chance at life and to move forward, and boy will he have a story to tell about his courage and his aunt’s precious gift.

“The bell ringing was such a special day I will remember forever,” Taylor added of the moment Crew got to ring the Bravery Bell. “I just kept thinking how out of reach this all felt when we first found out he had cancer. But for this day to come, and to see the smile on his face as he walked down the hall — it meant everything."

She Donated a Portion of Her Liver

His mom couldn’t help but add, “When I tell people my sister-in-law donated a portion of her liver, they're like, ‘Wow, you can do that?’ Her gift to us is the reason Crew’s thriving today.”

Life is a gift—fragile, sacred, and never guaranteed. So we hold our people a little closer, we say the words we’ve been meaning to say, and we thank God for every breath, because sometimes the most beautiful miracles don’t come with flashing lights—they look like an aunt, a hospital room, and a love that refuses to let go.

A Prayer to Boldly Ask God for What Seems Impossible - Your Daily Prayer - May 1

Perhaps you find yourself praying small requests, because then God is more likely to answer. Jeremiah 33:3 encourages us not to limit God’s power to the extent of what we understand. God’s power far exceeds what we know.
