Students Raise Over $1K With Lemonade Stand to Remember Teen Gone Too Soon

Some Michigan students created a lemonade stand to honor their friend who never got to start 8th grade. Thanks to their kindness and generosity, they raised over $1,000 for their friend’s family through “Lemonade for Lainey.” The 13-year-old’s family is grateful that she had such loving friends who still care for them in her absence.

Lainey Scrogg’s death was sudden and unexpected after she suffered a medical emergency on Aug. 12. 

“The kindness and compassion we have received, and continue to receive, mean more than words could ever express,” the family said. “The Lemonade Stand for Lainey was one of the many selfless acts carried out by our community to honor our special girl.”

One of Lainey’s friends, Ava Nehrig, said lemonade and lemons were Lainey’s “favorite,” so it was a fitting choice to raise money this way. 

The Family is Also Receiving Support Through GoFundMe

In addition to the lemonade fundraiser, a GoFundMe for the family has raised nearly $80,000. 

The family knows no amount of money could take away their grief. However, it brings them comfort to know that they are so deeply supported by their community, and that Lainey was so loved by them. 

Lainey’s Life Touched So Many Hearts

“Her beautiful life touched so many hearts,” the family said. “Her time with us was far too short, but the impact she made and the love she brought into this world will last forever. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for loving Lainey and for continuing to hold our family close.” 

It’s a beautiful thing that this girl’s friends had the compassion and maturity to support her family during their time of grief. I hope the Scroggs family is comforted knowing that Lainey was so loved by everyone. These students’ actions show how every act of kindness goes a long way.
