“Judge Frank Caprio passed away peacefully at the age of 88 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer,” a post on his Instagram begins. It goes on to state, “Beloved for his compassion, humility, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people, Judge Caprio touched the lives of millions through his work in the courtroom and beyond. His warmth, humor, and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He will be remembered not only as a respected judge, but as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. His legacy lives on in the countless acts of kindness he inspired.”
The post then ends with, “In his honor, may we each strive to bring a little more compassion into the world — just as he did every day.”
What a wonderful thing all of us can strive to do, bringing that compassion into the world.
Judge Frank Caprio shared about his diagnosis in a video back in December 2023. He asked his fans to pray for him and shared that before his 87th birthday, doctors diagnosed him with pancreatic cancer, which usually comes with a grim prognosis.
In the last video he made on August 19th, he was in his hospital bed, and shared, "Last year I asked you to pray for me, and it's very obvious that you did, because I came through a very difficult period.” He goes on to say, "Unfortunately, I've had a setback. I'm back in the hospital."
He asks that we remember him in our prayers. “I'm a great believer in the power of prayers. I think the almighty above is looking over us. So remember me, please." And you can’t help but tear up once you hear that.
Caprio’s show, Caught in Providence, ran from 2018 to 2020. In the show, real people and real cases came before the Providence Municipal Court and stood before Judge Caprio. He was known for showing compassion in the courtroom and was nicknamed “the Nicest Judge in the World!”
He gained his fan base through clips of him on the show and other videos. A fan base that stood with him through his cancer diagnosis.
His son, David Caprio, posted a video on his TikTok sharing that the compassionate judge had passed away. He talks about how the love that his fans shared with him got him through his cancer journey.
Many prayers to Judge Frank Caprio’s family as they mourn his earthly loss. May the world remember the compassion and kindness he showed to others, and may we work every day to make this world a better place, as he clearly did.
