When Wagner Figueiredo de Lima of Brazil died suddenly, his whole family was devastated. That included his beloved horse, Sereno. Wagner's brother decided to give Sereno the chance to say goodbye by bringing him to Wagner's funeral. And the sight of the horse grieving his owner's death, though absolutely heartbreaking, shows just how much animals truly love their humans. There were even times Wagner stopped buying things for himself so he'd have enough money to provide for Sereno. “This horse was everything to him,” Wando said.

“All the way to the cemetery, he would whimper and beat his paws on the ground.”

“[Sereno] began to walk around the coffin, smelling the coffin. Then he neighed,” a funeral attendee recalled.

“It was a very strong emotion. Everyone who was there was moved. I cried myself when I saw that scene.”

"It was as if the horse knew what was happening and wanted to say goodbye," said Wando.

Sereno is family. And so, Wando will take over caring for the horse that meant so much to his brother. “It was an unbelievable thing to see the way the horse behaved. If I hadn’t been there I wouldn’t have believed it myself," said Francielio, a close family friend and funeral attendee.
