Brilliant 12-Year-Old Graduates College, Then Decides To Go Back To High School
July 11, 2023

A gifted young woman, 12-year-old Fiona Currie, recently graduated from college with a perfect 4.0 GPA, but now she’s headed back to high school.
Most people look forward to momentous occasions or other dates on the calendar that hold significance. Many young people will state they can’t wait until they can drive or graduate high school and move out. For others, it may be the day they say, “I do,” have their first child or retire from the workforce. But isn’t this essentially wishing one’s life away and not fully enjoying the time God has already given us?

Fiona Currie, a 12-year-old girl in California, has been blessed with high intelligence. According to CNBC, Fiona is now the youngest graduate of Los Angeles City College.
She graduated from the institution of higher learning with an associate degree. Fiona enrolled in her first college course at only 9 years old, earning an “A” in the class. She then got an “A” in every following class on her way to a perfect GPA.
“The only reason that I really like college is because it gives me something to work on,” Fiona told ABC 7. “And it also gives me, like, so many opportunities to expand my artistic abilities.”

So, what is next for young Fiona, who already has a college degree before she can drive? Well, she’s headed to high school.
Fiona's Parents Want to Give Her Time to Enjoy Hobbies, Understand That Life Isn't Race
Sure, that may sound backward, but her mother and father – Roderick and Blanca – have a good reason for sending their gifted daughter to high school. They want to give her time to enjoy herself, be a kid and have fun.
“We just wanted her to be who she is, to be herself and not associate her with a number or score or anything like that,” Roderick said. “Life is not a race ... It’s not about who gets to their career quickest in life.”
Fiona is also looking forward to high school.
“Slowing down the pace will be a little more relaxing and give me more time to enjoy my hobbies,” she said.
Planning for the future is a good and necessary activity. But eagerly anticipating special events years in the future can cause people to overlook today. No one is promised tomorrow. We all have a limited time, so why not enjoy the time God has given us? Life moves fast enough on its own already.
