Couple Married Over 70 Years Pass Away Within Hours of Each Other, and It's Quite the Love Story

A couple married over 70 years pass away within hours of each other, and it’s quite the story. This is the kind of love story we all quietly long for. Grab a tissue and be ready to share with your friends.

This story is the kind built over breakfasts and ordinary Tuesdays. The kind stitched together through hard seasons, laughter, gardens, road trips, and hands reaching for each other in the dark. The kind where one life becomes so woven into another that you can’t imagine the thread ever being pulled apart.

They Passed Away On the Same Day

I’ve known my husband since I was 13. I’ve known him for so long that I cannot imagine a day without him. Maybe that’s why stories like this reach deep into the heart. Because somewhere inside us all is the hope that love can last, and that when the ending comes, mercy might meet us there too.

That mercy came for the Tennessee couple of Wilson County, John Ridley Trice and Alice Moss Trice. They had been married more than 70 years when they passed away on the same day—just hours apart—inside the home they built and shared for decades. John was 93. Alice was 94.

You Never Heard One’s Name Without the Other

Their daughter, Angela Trice, said it best: “You never said one name and didn't think of the other. Truly one of them would not have wanted to live without the other and they didn't have to.”

Isn’t that what true love becomes? Not two separate names, but one story. John died around 1 p.m. on April 2. Alice followed nine hours later. What a tender mercy from the Lord—that neither had to learn how to live long without the other.

Couple Married Over 70 Years

The couple first met at a square dance and married on Nov. 11, 1955. They went on to raise two children, build a home, and create a life marked by faithfulness. John farmed the land and later sold tractors and equipment. Alice carried kindness wherever she went and was a faithful member of College Hills Church of Christ.

But perhaps one of the sweetest details of all is that they traveled the world together. They visited all 50 states and many countries, making memories together. Their journey mattered just as much as the destination.

And maybe that’s the secret to love after all.

Angela shared her father’s wisdom for a lasting marriage: “You know, dad used to say put God first and then be there for each other,” she said of her father's simple rule.

Simple words. Sacred truth. Because when God is woven into the fabric of love, it becomes stronger than time. Stronger than hardship. Stronger even than death. This is the kind of ending we all pray for—a small miracle, a quiet mercy, and a love that walks each other all the way home.

And if a man prevails against him that is alone, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12
