Bindi Irwin Wishes People Would Stop Asking When She's Having More Kids And Here's Why

Bindi Irwin is the daughter of the late Steve Irwin. This wildlife lover was the star of the popular Animal Planet show, The Crocodile Hunter. And God blessed the man with a heart and natural talent for animals of all kinds.

Steve’s vibrant personality made it easy to forget the danger involved in his job. However, while filming a documentary on dangerous animals in 2006, Steve Irwin passed away at 44 years old after a barb from a stingray pierced his heart.

The tragic accident left Steve’s wife, Terri Irwin, to raise their two children, Bindi and Robert, alone. And the loving family stuck together, honoring Steve Irwin’s dying wish to keep the Australia Zoo going.

Now, Steve Irwin's children are old enough to begin having families of their own. And Steve's daughter has already become a mother herself.

However, in an interview, Bindi Irwin explained how giving birth to her daughter, Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, was a true miracle. And she opens up about the reason she hates it when people ask, "Why aren't you having more children?"

Illness Goes Undiagnosed For Over A Decade

For years, Bindi "struggled with insurmountable fatigue, pain, and nausea." Though she sought help from medical professionals, at the time the doctors told her the symptoms were "simply something you deal with as a woman."

Bindi knew deep down something bigger was going on with her. But doctors couldn't seem to find a reason for her suffering.

“I was tested for everything,” she recalled. “Every tropical disease, Lyme disease, cancer, you name it. I had every blood test and scan imaginable.”

Having doctors dismiss her fears was just as excruciating as the pain itself.

“It’s so hard because you feel like it’s inescapable,” she said. “You don’t know what’s wrong with you, and then when people tell you ‘It’s all in your head’ or ‘you’re hormonal’ or ‘just have a cup of tea, lay down,’ you end up feeling so desperately alone because there’s no answers.”

Bindi Irwin Interview Details Battle With Endometriosis

Eventually, a laparoscopy revealed that she had endometriosis. Endometriosis is a disease that causes tissue to grow outside the uterus. It's incredibly painful and can cause infertility. So with the diagnosis came the distinct reality that childbirth may be something Bindi never experienced.

Thankfully, God blessed Bindi Irwin and her husband, Chandler Powell, with a sweet baby girl in 2021. And in the interview, Bindi Irwin explains how it's a gift for which the couple will always be grateful.

"For us personally, we feel so lucky to have Grace," she said. "I think that every day I wake up and I look at our beautiful daughter and think she is our tiny little miracle and it makes me cry because we were very, very lucky to have her."

But given the struggles Bind has quietly faced for years, it's especially painful when people will ask her why she isn't having more children.

"I feel like it is a universal question for women, which is heartbreaking because you never know what's going on in someone's life and what's happening behind closed doors," she shared.

In the laparoscopy that helped doctors diagnose Bindi, she says they found 37 lesions and a cyst on her ovary. Bindi eventually opted for surgery to have them removed. And she is sharing her story in the hopes of helping other woman facing fertility issues and the dreaded question -- "When are you finally going to have kids?"
