6 Tips To Help To Be More Bold In Your Faith
July 15, 2015

Here are 6 tips that I hope can make you more confident in sharing your faith and doing it more consistently and boldly.
The Word Has Power
If we really understood that the gospel has its own power, we might unleash it more often so we need to understand that salvation doesn’t depend on us, but upon God and His Word. Let me put it this way and you can substitute the word “woman” in this same phrase; it takes a man of God with the Word of God and the Spirit of God to make the children of God for the glory of God. That’s why Paul wrote “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith” (Rom 1:16-17). Notice that the gospel is the power of God for salvation, not in my nor in you. The gospel is like a caged lion; we just have to open the cage and let it out and it’s defend itself but God needs someone to open the cage door. Will that be you or will that be me?
The Word never returns Void
In Isaiah 55:11 it says “so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” What a powerful promise this is. Imagine this; you throw a boomerang and it comes back to you. You sent it out to accomplish what you sent it to do and that was that it was to come back to you and it did! God’s Word is more powerful than any boomerang. God promises that His Word that goes out of His mouth and this Word is found in the pages of the Bible, will not return empty or without achieving or accomplishing what he purposed for it to do. God says of His Word that it “shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” That’s a guarantee from God. His Word has effectual power; that is it has power to affect the listener. It is not your responsibility to save anyone. It is their response to His ability but it is our responsibility to proclaim it (Matt 28:19-20).
The Spirit’s Power
Acts 1:8 says “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Here is another ironclad guarantee. God will gives us the power we need through His Spirit, the Holy Spirit, Who is also God, to go with us and come upon us to empower us to say what we need to say to the lost. If we believe the Scriptures then we must believe that God will equip us to do what He sends us out to do for God never sends us without equipping us to do what He commands us to do. Jesus promised “when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative--that is, the Holy Spirit--he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you” (John 14:26). Jesus had earlier said that “he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever” (John 14:16). Worried about what you’ll say to the lost? Don’t be because “when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come” (John 16:13).
The Command to Go
If God has a “plan B” to reach the lost, I couldn’t find it in the Scriptures. Jesus commanded the disciples and He commands us to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matt 28:19-20). I believe no church will grow unless they go so be bolder in your faith because your Command in Chief is telling you too. We cannot make any excuses because even the great missionary and evangelist Paul said “I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling” (1st Cor 2:3) and when I speak before other churches, I know exactly what he means and I often quote this when preaching at different churches.
Think of their Eternity
If we really understood that hell is inescapable and it is torment for time without end, then we might be bolder in our witnessing to the lost. The greatest act of love is to be willing to offend someone for the sake of saving them. I don’t think when we get to heaven we’ll say “Wow, I wish I hadn’t offended my aunt by telling her about Christ. I wish I hadn’t made my friend angry by telling him he needed Christ” but instead, we might think “Why didn’t I tell others about Christ when I had the chance on earth” because there’s no evangelism in heaven. Memorize this verse and maybe it’ll motivate you “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them” (John 3:36). William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army gave a ten week course on evangelism and told his students that “I’m sorry this course took so long but if you could spend five minutes in hell, we wouldn’t need this training.” True enough!
Be Transparent
If you are honest with yourself, you’ll be honest with others so don’t hold back your own faults and shortcomings. When we share the gospel, many believe that they’ll never be good enough to be saved so make sure and tell them it’s never about being good enough (Eph 2:8-9) but about a Savior Who was Perfect Who died for all of their sins including their pornography, their addictions, their blasphemes, and anything they’ve ever done in their life. No matter how bit their sin is, the Savior is always bigger. You cannot out-sin the cross. I tell those who I witness to my own sorted background and leave nothing out and remind them of this verse, which is the gospel in a nutshell “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2nd Cor 5:21). All we need to do is to repent and believe (Mark 1:15) and confess our sins and God will cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1st John 1:9). Guess what the Greek word for “all” means? It means all! That’s it.
Conclusion
I think we should understand that God adds to the church and not us as it says in Acts 2:47 “And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” If it depended upon me, then I’d have no hope of rescuing the perishing but salvation is fully a work of God (John 6:44) and not of man but God does need someone to tell them and why not you? If not you, then who because as Paul wrote “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching” (Rom 10:14)?
