Her Childhood Pen Pal Turned Out to Be the OB-GYN Who Delivered Her Kids

Her childhood pen pal turned out to be the OB-GYN who delivered her kids! There are stories that feel stitched together by the steady, unseen hand of God; threads woven long before we ever notice the pattern. This is one of them.

Megan Lewis was home for the holidays, sorting through old boxes, when she came across letters she’d written as a little girl in the 1990s. Pen pal letters. The kind written carefully, with rounded handwriting and earnest questions, sent off to someone she barely remembered.

She Was Shocked When She Found Out Who Her Pen Pal Was

Curious, she searched the name. And that’s when her world tilted.

“My mouth dropped,” Megan said. “I could not believe that my pen pal was Dr. Pugh, who was my OB/GYN and delivered my kids: Caroline and Jack.”

Only God could orchestrate something like that.

The pen pal was Suzanne, now Dr. Suzanne Pugh, the very doctor who had walked Megan through some of the most tender, vulnerable seasons of her life. Megan began seeing Dr. Pugh in 2018, during a difficult season before pregnancy. “Dr. Pugh was really there for me,” Megan shared. “She really supported me during my pregnancy… and she made sure that she was the doctor for my deliveries.”

Suzanne Was in 11th Grade, Megan in 2nd

Decades earlier, Suzanne had been an 11th grader. Megan was a second grader. They wrote letters between 1994 and 1995. Then life moved on. Memories faded. Until they didn’t.

When Megan reached out, Suzanne was stunned. “I had no recollection of this,” she said. But when Megan sent photos of the letters, Suzanne knew. “It was me! It’s such a crazy small world.”

And yet—maybe not small at all.

It Wasn’t a Coincidence That the Woman Found Her Pen Pal

“It really made us feel like I was meant to take care of her and we were meant to play a role in each other’s lives,” Dr. Pugh said. “It’s just amazing that for whatever reason, our universes collided again 30 years later.”

This isn't a coincidence. This is God, writing a longer story than we can see, linking a child’s pen pal to a woman’s doctor, to the hands that would one day help bring her babies into the world. Isn’t this the kind of love and thought and detail we want from God sometimes?
