Two Sisters Lost Their Beloved Mom and Yet They Can't Stop Laughing
December 04, 2023

Two sisters took to TikTok recently to make video confessions of the mistakes they’ve made without their mom’s guidance, since her death in July 2022. Their confessions, shared with laughter and love, comforted others grieving their own losses.
Karen Riggins lost her battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 63. Two of Karen’s daughters honored her with their funny and heartwarming video confessions during November, which is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.

Daughter Sara Wollner shared with TODAY.com, “We called her ‘Crazy Karen’ because she always had a comeback and she loved to poke fun at herself.”
It seems Karen’s girls have inherited and maintained their senses of humor, too, in spite of their personal losses.
Humor Helps Family Cope
Karen (nicknamed “Kare”) had become a single mother when the girls’ father died while they were still little. Karen and her three daughters had become a team during those years, facing life’s challenges together. Daughter Katie Riggins recalled her mother saying “Let’s laugh about it and keep it moving” when bad things happened along the way. The family motto was: “We are women, hear us roar.” No doubt that family spirit and determination helped Karen’s adult children survive the grief of losing their beloved mother.

Even though Karen raised her daughters to be both stylish and capable, they’ve encountered new lessons that had to be learned since their beautiful mom left this earth. Katie and Sara listed those in their hilarious disclosures.
While their foul-ups and faux pas aren’t always funny, the two recall them amid laughter and tears, almost unable to speak clearly because they can’t gain their composure. And, we totally understand how each event must have been a moment that caused them to miss Mom.

They describe not knowing they were supposed to file Karen’s taxes and not knowing they needed their own car insurance. Sara had gotten a stomach bug and left Katie to handle sister Megan’s baby shower solo. Katie attempted a charity walk, but failed to finish it, because she thinks she broke her foot. And, Karen cops to not being able to cry at Karen’s service, fearful she would throw up if she did since she was so very pregnant.
Sisters' Video Confessions Go Viral
With 19 million views and comments from many who related to the levity in their loss, Sara and Katie returned to TikTok for a second installment. This time, they spoke about catching boxes on fire during a move, nearly destroying Karen’s nice Dyson vacuum, and being unaware that they needed to have Karen’s name placed on her headstone. Oh, ladies!
Video #2 of “Konfessions to Kare” has been viewed over 760,000 times!
One viewer commented, “My mom died in April. Thank you, I needed this laugh (Note to self: file her taxes next year).”
Another wrote, “Confession: My mom died a year ago (and) I couldn’t cry at her funeral because I accidentally took my brother’s anxiety pills instead of my thyroid pills.”
A third shared, “This is the BEST healing. My sister and I tried to spread mom's ashes in a blizzard. We ended up wearing her!”

Their message strikes the hearts of many who have struggled to make their way in the absence of a father, mother, sister, brother, or spouse. Grief is expressed in a variety of different ways, and this way is pretty sweet. If Karen sees Sara, Katie, and Megan, she’s probably very proud. She gave them the gift of love, laughter, and family!
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13
