Dad Dances With Autistic Daughter When She Can't Go To The Prom

All in the family.

This mom of a teenage daughter with autism witnessed a beautiful moment and captured it on film. Her daughter was having a moment of anxiety and the dad stepped in and made it a night to remember! THIS is a memory the daughter (and her parents) will keep in their hearts forever.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness." Galatians 5:22

Terri Colachis, a blogger from San Diego, recently posted this picture. In it, her 15-year-old daughter, Shea, is dancing with her dad, Gus. Shea has autism and experiences anxiety. Last year, when she was too overwhelmed to go to her prom, her dad put on some music outside and danced with his daughter. The result is the sweet photo above filled with love.

To me, this picture so perfectly caught the complexities of what it feels like to have autism and what it sometimes feels like to be the parent of a child with autism, Colachis said. Sharing a milestone with your daughter in such a different but equally special way just brought me to my knees.

Today's Devotional

A Prayer for Dealing with Family Rejection This Holiday Season - Your Daily Prayer - December 5

One of the best times of the year can also be one of the most difficult. Harvest décor leads into Christmas bells and lights. We fill the calendar slots with parties and events. This can create a low-level hum of anxiety if the upcoming family get-togethers feel like a risky walk through a minefield.
