Father of Three Dies After Being Struck By Lightning While On Golf Course

A father of three dies after being struck by lightning while on a golf course. Some stories tear at your heart, not just because of the loss, but because of the light that shone so brightly through one life.

That’s how it feels when you hear about Spencer Loalbo—a devoted follower of Jesus, a loving husband, and a proud father of three—whose life was tragically cut short after he was struck by lightning while golfing with his dad in Gunter, Texas, on Sunday, June 8.

A Father-Son Moment Turned to Tragedy

What was meant to be a simple father-son afternoon turned into a moment that would ripple through his family, his community, and now, hearts across the nation.

Some called it a “freak accident,” but those who knew Spencer say there was nothing accidental about the way he lived his life. His family described him as “a cherished son, a loyal friend, and a selfless giver.” And in the words of his loved ones, “His life was a reflection of his faith — serving others, uplifting those in need, and always putting his family and friends before himself.”

Spencer Was That Guy

His wife, Kaylee, shared that Spencer was that guy—the one who would stop to give rides to strangers, feed the unhoused, and pour generosity into the lives of others without thinking twice. “He just lived Jesus,” Kaylee said. “In the quiet ways. In the kind ways. In ways that made people feel seen.”

She’s now facing a future without the man she built a life with, and yet—even in her grief—she’s overwhelmed by the support that’s come flooding in.

Kaylee’s Heart Was Broken

“The outpouring of love has just been unbelievable,” she wrote in a GoFundMe update. “My heart is so broken, but God, the girls, and all the kind words and support keep me going. Please keep praying for me and the girls as we try to figure out life without our guy. We need it.”

But perhaps the most faith-filled words came from Evelynn, Spencer’s 8-year-old daughter, who spoke to reporters with a strength and wisdom beyond her years.

She Knows He is With God

“I know that he's with God,” she said softly, “and all of his problems have gone away and he's really happy.”

The little girl went on to talk about hunting and fishing with her dad, and playing dress-up—tiny sacred memories now sealed in her heart.

It’s those memories that make grief both unbearable and beautiful. It’s the kind of loss that cracks you open. But it’s also where God shows up—in the cracks, in the questions, in the grief.

The Community Stepped Up After He Was Struck By Lightning

Since June 10, more than $115,000 has been raised through a GoFundMe campaign to support Kaylee and their three children with medical, funeral, and living expenses. It’s a reflection of how deeply Spencer impacted the lives of those around him.

And while this world feels a little dimmer without him, there’s no doubt Spencer’s legacy continues to shine. Because love like his doesn’t end—it multiplies through his family. Through the stories people will tell for years to come. Through the kindness he modeled without applause.

He gave freely. He believed wholeheartedly. He lived as though Heaven was near—and now, Heaven holds him.
