High School Senior Fighting for Her Life Gets Help From Team Crossing Finish Line and Goes Viral
June 10, 2021

This high school senior’s track team helps her finish her final track meet. Doctors diagnosed New York high school student, Yeva Klingbeil, with a rare and debilitating cancer less than two years before she was able to walk again. Since the cancer attacked her muscles, Yeva had to learn how to do daily tasks all over again.
A cancer diagnosis will never be easy at any age, but rhabdomyosarcoma severely changed Yeva’s life. She used a wheelchair to get around and had to have other people do ‘simple’ tasks for her.
This didn’t prevent her from keeping her eyes on the prize -- rehabilitation. While Yeva battled the disease in the dark, her classmates and team helped support her every step of the way. Students planned and held marathons and fundraisers for her.

She said, “The support means the world to me, I don't know what I would do without the support.”
That encouragement didn’t stop with cheers. Yeva and a few teammates from her track team helped her walk arm-in-arm across the finish line at her last high school track meet.

Once the four peers crossed the finish line, the rest of the track team flooded around her cheering. They started chanting her name to celebrate this huge step in her recovery. This is where I teared up.
No matter how much evil is in the world, there’s never enough to kill all of the love that is found every day, everywhere.
Yeva mentioned that she has been pushing herself ever since her diagnosis. With each step, she gains more confidence. She is extremely proud to be able to start doing things for herself that we can take for granted.

Although Yeva’s condition is improving, she still has chemotherapy appointments. But none of that matters to her while she focuses on the positives, including the help from her team. She said, “Soon I hope to walk by myself, and the fact that I’ve come so far in that amount of time. It gives me hope.”
We pray for Yeva’s full recovery and for the battles she faces every single day. God bless her and her strength. We are cheering for your personal victories too, Yeva!
