Anguished Parents Speak Out Against Snapchat After It Leads to Son's Death

Several devastated parents are putting out a Snapchat warning after losing their children to connections made over the popular social media app.

All parents hope their children experience a long, healthy and happy life. Every mother and father want nothing more than for their children to be children and enjoy adolescence. But whenever this is not the case and a parent is forced to bury a child, it can be absolutely soul-crushing and result in unquantifiable grief and sorrow.

That’s why, in a video posted on YouTube, two parents are sharing their stories about their horrible experience with the popular social media app. They are hoping to save other mothers and fathers from enduring a similar experience as theirs.

Snapchat Warning After Terrible Tragedies

Sam Chapman’s 16-year-old son, Sammy, died after ingesting drugs the teen received for free from someone who contacted him over Snapchat.

His father called Sammy a good student who enjoyed playing football. The young man dreamt of attending New York University and becoming a businessman.

The drug dealer, Sam states, offered the high school junior free drugs over Snapchat. Later, the young man's parents found him dead on the floor.

Amy Neville shares her tragic story, too, as a part of the Snapchat warning. She said that she suspected something was wrong and off with her son, Alexander. She even questioned him about it. Initially, the teen disregarded his mother’s concerns, telling her he was up late and had eaten something bad.

However, the teen later confessed to his parents he was experimenting with Oxycontin. He'd gotten it from a drug dealer on Snapchat. Soon after sharing that information with his parents, Alexander was dead.

The video points out that Sam, Amy and 65 other families have brought a suit against Snapchat. With their legal action, those families are hoping to bring about change, seeking to keep others from losing their son or daughter.

“We now believe that putting your kid on Snapchat is like dropping him off in the most dangerous, drug-filled neighborhood and hoping he does well for himself,” Sam said.
