Routine Stop Takes A Sudden Twist As Atlanta Police Officer Helps Deliver Baby

Some folks move at a slightly slower pace on Monday mornings, but easing into the day was not possible for one police officer who helped deliver a baby before his week hardly got underway. 

Officer Patrick Burt works for the Sandy Springs Police Department’s traffic unit. Sandy Springs is a suburb of Atlanta, one of this country’s 50 largest cities. So, Officer Burt has probably seen a few things, to say the least.

It was just after 7:00 a.m. when Officer Burt spotted a car pulled onto the side of Interstate 285E. Though he might have been prepared for anything, it was probably still a surprise to discover that the woman inside was in active labor! 

Police Officer Helps Deliver Baby

Officer Burt is a parent himself, but he had never delivered a baby before. No matter, though. He jumped in and helped to safely deliver baby Noah.

Afterward, he checked on mom and baby to make sure both were doing fine. It looks like Officer Burt may have also brought a special treat for Noah—perhaps his very first stuffed animal!

The name “Noah” means “rest.” That’s probably exactly what Officer Burt provided—comfort and mental rest to the mother he found in distress that day. Undoubtedly, she was scared for herself and her baby.

Officer Burt surely put her at ease when he stopped and checked out the situation. What a blessing the police officer was there to help deliver the baby!

“I was ready to do what I’m going to do, what I have to do for my community or anybody that needs help. I’m there for them,” he said. 

A Job Well Done

Law enforcement professionals see way too many unpleasant and sad situations. So Officer Burt was thrilled to be able to serve someone during such a positive and hopeful time. “It’s kind of uplifting to show the police in a better side of life right now,” shared Officer Burt. “I’m glad I was able to be a part of that.”

Job well done, Officer Burt! You may not have had your second cup of coffee on that “manic Monday,” but you are a hero nonetheless!
