Mom Hears Son's Screams And Jumps Into Action As Mountain Lion Starts Dragging Him Away

One brave mom saves her son from a mountain lion that attacked him in the front yard of their home in California.

As soon as the mom heard her little boy screaming in the front of the house, she jumped into action to protect him. She started to hit the mountain lion that was attacking her son, and because of her quick actions, the boy was saved. He was then taken to a local hospital where he is now in stable condition.

Captain Patrick Foy with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife shared about how this mom’s heroic actions saved the little boy’s life. “She ran outside and immediately started striking and punching at the lion and managed to fend the lion off her son. This mom's an absolute hero who saved her son's life, there's no question about it," he said.

The mountain lion that attacked the boy was about 65 pounds, and the animal wounded the child on his head, neck, and upper torso.

After the attack, wildlife officials went to do an investigation in the area and found an aggressive mountain lion. They fatally shot it, and lab tests came back proving that it was indeed the mountain lion that injured the little boy.

Ana Beatriz Cholo is with the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area, and she says that you should never turn and run away if you come across a mountain lion. “Try to make yourself look bigger than you are and give it space to move on," she says. And if that doesn't work, then you can throw items or use physical action to get them to leave.

What a terrifying encounter this must have been for this little boy. But thank goodness his mother was there to save him! Thanks to her, he is now safe and recovering from the scary event.
