Miracle Baby Weighed Less Than A Bunch Of Grapes When Born

Rachel and Michael were worried when Rachel started getting contractions at only 24 weeks. They were terrified when Rachel went in to labor. But God had his hand on their little girl, Marley. A Sudden Change

The sudden labor was a complete surprise to Rachel. There'd been no issues or cause for concern.

“It was a totally normal pregnancy up until that point," Rachel said. “Everything was fine - I’d just had my 20-week scan and found out it was a girl. It all happened really suddenly.”

[rsnippet id="3" name="Article-Ad"] As it turns out, a spontaneous rupture of the membrane is what brought Marley Carter into the world well before her due date. Her premature appearance and tiny size had both doctors and her parents on edge.

“When she came out they took her away from us straight away and I was told there was a 50% chance that she wouldn’t survive," Rachel recalled. “I couldn’t believe it - I couldn’t even speak, I just cried for about three days straight.”

Fighting For Life

Things were extremely touch and go. Doctors warned Rachel and Michael that even if Marley pulled through, she'd most likely be blind or deaf. But her parents refused to give up hope. Born breathing on her own, they moved the tiny girl to a ventilator five days later. Marley underwent several infections, three blood transfusions and a surgery to keep her from going blind. It was excruciating for her parents to watch their little angel suffer.

“I got to hold her for the first time when she was about three weeks old,” Rachel laments.

But through it all, little Marley kept fighting. And after two months in the hospital, the tiny warrior finally turned a corner! Credit: Chronicle Live

"She was really feisty - it was amazing," Rachel said. "She is an absolute miracle."

The miracle baby weighed less than a bunch of grapes at birth, but now weighs a much healthier 4lbz 10oz. Doctors expect the little angel will be ready to go home after just a few more weeks.
