Facebook's CEO Made An Incredible Promise To His Baby Girl

Creating A Better Tomorrow By Starting Today

Credit: Facebook One of the phrases expecting parents hear over and over is, “Having kids is going to completely change your life!” And even though it’s often said with a chuckle and a slightly ominous tone, the phrase itself couldn’t be more true. Kids completely and utterly change your life...for the better! After roughly 9 months of watching life grow and then witnessing the sheer miracle of childbirth, you can’t help but see the world differently. It’s a defining moment where love swells from the depth of your heart, bursting through the hardened edges left there by the world, leaving an intense desire to spread that goodness and love to the rest of the world so that it’s there to meet the precious baby cradled in your arms as they grow. Credit: Facebook Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO and co-founder of Facebook, and his wife, Priscilla, just experienced that moment with the birth of their first child. It was especially touching since the couple had previously experience 3 miscarriages in their quest to have children. [rsnippet id="3" name="Article-Ad"] In a letter Mark posted to his profile page on the day their baby girl, Max, was born, he said,

“Your mother and I don't yet have the words to describe the hope you give us for the future. Your new life is full of promise, and we hope you will be happy and healthy so you can explore it fully. You've already given us a reason to reflect on the world we hope you live in. Like all parents, we want you to grow up in a world better than ours today.”

And in an effort to make sure that happens, the couple has made a pretty amazing promise to their newborn daughter. Credit: Facebook Over the course of their lifetime, the couple will give up 99% of their shares in Facebook stock -- currently valued around $45 billion. The money will be donated to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, where it will be used to help better the world for the next generation, starting with the areas of “personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities.” This goal of improving our world is reiterated throughout the letter, which Mark closes by saying,

“Max, we love you and feel a great responsibility to leave the world a better place for you and all children. We wish you a life filled with the same love, hope and joy you give us. We can't wait to see what you bring to this world.”

Just the other month they donated $20 million to EducationSuperHighway to bring better wireless Internet to schools. And earlier in the year they donated $75 million to San Francisco General Hospital. We don’t all have billions of dollars to give away, but that doesn’t mean that God can’t use us to do great things. We all have something to give, whether it be time, money, love, encouragement, and so on. God put a special purpose on each of our lives and we pray each of us will answer His call!

“Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.” Luke 12:33  

This church was feeling generous and gave a pizza delivery girl an amazing tip, only to learn it was all part of God’s great plan!
