Woman with Incurable Skin Disease Trusted God To Send Her A Man Who Saw With His Heart

It is hard to admit sometimes, but the way people look has a big impact on the way others view them. 28-year old Karine de Souza realizes that others may judge her for her appearance caused by a skin disease, but that did not stop her from putting her hope and trust in God for her life. And this confidence that she has because of her faith is what made 23-year-old Edmilson Alcântara fall in love with her.

The rare, genetic disease that Karine has is called “Xeroderma Pigmentosum”. The disease has no cure and leads to skin injuries when she comes in contact with ultraviolet light. But when Edmilson met Karine, the marks on her skin did not detract from her beauty. He fell in love with her and what was in her heart. What a true man of God!

In the Bible, a few verses in 1 Peter talk about inner beauty.

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” – 1 Peter 3:3-4

This scripture reminds us that it is not what is on the outside that counts. We need to look at the inner parts of one another. We need to see the character and the love that we have beneath the surface. This is the way for us to see true beauty. The kind of beauty that is of great worth in God’s sight.

Edmilson and Karine were recently engaged, and they had professional photos taken by photographer Daniel Panisson. In a viral post from his Facebook page, Daniel writes:

The photographer continues, adding, "In a world where appearance matters more than the feeling, they met it was not by chance, it was a meeting of souls, a meeting of acceptance and character and love arose when their souls met and today you are the inspiration for so many people who don't believe in themselves, in life and especially in love…."

And he concludes by beautifully saying, "And I can say, having portrayed the love of this couple has brought me peace and a lot of inspiration for the soul. The acceptance, protection and all affection involved between the two of them, has made me see that love is not lost.”

What a beautiful, God-honoring love story! May these two always cherish one another and continue to love each other with a God-like love.
