Golden Retriever Saved by Lifeboat Crew After Running Into the Ocean After a Scare
February 12, 2025

A golden retriever saved by a lifeboat crew after running into the ocean after a scare is now home and safe. It happened so fast. One moment, Andrea and Richard were securing their new rescue in the car, ready for another day of routine and comfort, and the next–panic. A beep, a shared sound cutting through the air sent the pup Seren into a frenzy. Her paws hit the sand, then the surf, and then she was gone–racing toward the unknown, fear driving her straight into the unforgiving sea.
The waves didn’t care. They swelled and churned relentlessly, carrying Seren farther and farther from shore, from safety, from the arms that had promised her she was finally home. And only three years old, Seren was no match for the tide’s cruel grip.

Andrea’s breath caught in her throat. “We tried to catch her,” she would later say, her voice thick with the helplessness of that moment. They called the Coast Guard. And then—prayed. "I've rescued many dogs in my time, but Seren is definitely the most traumatized," Andrea said. "She had just been getting comfortable with her regular beach walks."
The Porthcawl Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) crew was swift, launching into the rolling water and scanning the horizon. And then—there. A small golden head, barely above the surface, her leash still trailing behind like a tether to a world she could no longer reach.
“Hello, little girl,” a rescuer’s voice came, gentle over the roar of the waves as strong arms lifted Seren into the lifeboat. She trembled, exhausted, saltwater clinging to her fur. But she was safe. She was saved more than 900 feet from shore. That’s how far fear had carried her. But love? Love had carried back to shore.

And isn’t that what rescue looks like? Isn’t that what love does? It does not abandon. It does not watch from the shore and weep. Love moves. Love calls out into the storm. Love goes after the one that is lost and carries them home.
The same relentless love leaves the ninety-nine to find the one, the love of a Shepherd who rescues, not because we have strength, but because He does.
And today, Seren rests—where she belongs, wrapped in love, proof that rescue is never far away even when we are swept away, even when fear pulls us under.
