Minnesota 9-Year-Old Sets Up a Free Compliments Stand, Encouraging Her Community

A 9-year-old Minnesota girl gives out free compliments just to make her neighbor’s day. The little girl, Millie Benjamin, doesn’t get a thing out of it. Just the joy at seeing the smiles on others’ faces is enough for her.

Little Girl Gives Out Free Compliments to Neighbors

Just giving compliments to her sister and parents wasn’t enough, so Millie set up a “Free Compliments” sign in her yard. It was all her idea, but her parents weren’t so sure at first. 

“I was actually a little worried that people were going to think we're nuts,” her mom, Holly, says.

But “people came,” Holly says.

Holly makes sure she is nearby to ensure that Millie’s kindness is being properly received. But she doesn’t need to worry very much.

“I'm spell-bounded by your beauty,” Millie tells Alexa Sharp, a teen in the passenger seat of her dad’s pickup.

“This, like, made my whole entire day,” Alexa says, smiling.

A Little Joy Goes a Long Way

“Seeing people happy makes me happy,” Millie says. 

When Plymouth, Minnesota, firefighter Adam Kragthrope introduces himself to Millie, she hardly has to think before a compliment forms. 

“I'm Adam,” he says.

Millie quickly responds, “Well, that's a very handsome name.” 

She tells police officer Haley Briesch, “Even though you have all this stuff for robbers, they might just be knocked out because of your beauty.”  

When one woman tries to pay her for her services, Millie says, “No one should pay to be happy.”

One of her customers said, “I had a pretty crappy day today. So having her talk to me like that today was really nice.” 

Another of her customers was brought to tears.

“I drove by and I started crying because the world needs more joy,” he told Millie.

Millie even complimented a ladybug for its beautiful spots. The girl is a gem to her community and is surely a great blessing to her family!
