7 Terrific Hymns About The Love Of God
April 06, 2016

Here are seven great hymns about the love of God.
Blessed Redeemer
“Blessed Redeemer” by Casting Crowns, written by John Mark Hall and Bernie Herms and released in 2009 from the album “Until the Whole World Hears” has been requested many times after a person was saved or at their baptism as the words tell it all; “Father, forgive them,” my Savior prayed. Even while His lifeblood flowed fast away. Praying for sinners while in such woe. No one but Jesus ever loved so, Dying for me” and for you if you’ve placed your trust in Jesus Christ. What love displayed in His “Wounded and bleeding, for sinners pleading. Blind and unheeding, dying for me” and for you.
How He Loves Me
The song “How He Loves Me,” written by John Mark McMillan and sang by the David Crowder Band repeats over and over again to what ends God went to display His love for those who repented and trusted in Him. After the sinner saw himself, he sang “I realize just how beautiful You are, And how great Your affections are for me” and so “oh, how He loves us, oh, Oh, how He loves us, How He loves us all.” How does He loves us? Romans 5: says “while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly” (Rom 5:6). That’s exactly how He loves us, dying for enemies and wicked sinners at the time (Rom 5:8, 10).
Amazing Grace
John Newton’s life story is about the love of God Who preserved him through many a “toil and snare,” perhaps his toiling fruitlessly in life without Christ and held in the snare of sin, debauchery, and drunkenness” but when a fierce storm threatened his life, he cried out to God and “saved a wretch like me” which Paul could have identified with (Rom 7:24). An untraditional version of this by Christ Tomlin, “Grace Like Rain” is very much like “Amazing Grace” but it speaks of “grace like rain,” falling down on him (Eph 2:8-9) and is a very beautiful worship song worth the many “hallelujah’s” you’ll find in the lyrics because God’s “washed away all our stains”…and all our sins. Hallelujah!
Praise You in this Storm
The song “Praise You in this Storm” by Casting Crowns seems to be a song that most of us can relate too. Who hasn’t lived in the seeming silence of God “As the thunder rolls. I barely hear your whisper through the rain. I'm with you.” Just like Job said, “The Lord gives and the Lord takes away” (Job 1:21), they sang, “I praise you in the storm” and “No matter where I am. And every tear I've cried. You hold in your hand. You never left my side.” It’s like the time when we didn’t see God but we look back and there was only one set of footprints in the sand and they weren’t ours.
Beautiful
The song “Beautiful” by Dan Muckala and Brown Bannister of MercyMe wrote and sang a glorious tribute to the Lord our God. It’s as if they are singing, “love is as love does” and how very much God did for us. These men wrote this song for the daughters so that they’d know the full measure of God’s love as displayed on the cross and that “all the lies you've held inside so long. And they are nothing in the shadow of the cross” so this song is very special to the group, MercyMe, at least to two of the men.
Unfailing Love
Chris Tomlin’s “Unfailing Love” is about the trustworthiness of God’s unfailing love. When everything else around us is failing and our relationships are in danger of failing; or worse, they already have, God is the God who Chris Tomlin sings “You never change. God You remain. The Holy One. My unfailing love. Unfailing love” and “The one I hold on to” so “How beautiful is your unfailing love. Unfailing love.”
In Christ Alone
The hymn, “In Christ Alone,” written by Julian Keith Getty and Richard Stewart Townend, glorifies Jesus Christ by singing that “In Christ alone my hope is found” and “Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.” Since no one can be saved through any other means (Acts 4:12), our “strivings cease” and most reassuring of all, “No guilt in life, no fear in death. This is the power of Christ in me. From life's first cry to final breath. Jesus commands my destiny.” Do you know that power of Christ? Even more important, do you even know Christ?
Conclusion
Can you sing about God’s amazing grace and the “hour I first believed?” Oh my friend, I pray to God as I write this that you will see how you and I fall short of God’s glory (Rom 3:23) and must run to the cross for safety from the wrath of God to where it was poured out on Jesus! We cannot be saved without repentance and that means we must turn away and forsake our sins and after this, turn to God and put all of our faith in Christ Jesus Who alone can save us (Acts 4:12) and impute His very own righteousness toward us (2nd Cor 5:21). What more could God do to show His love for us than to die for those who deserved the wrath of God. For this, the Father placed His wrath on the innocent Lamb of God, His precious One and Only Unique Son of God. He took it all upon Himself for those who supremely deserved it. This wasn’t all God could do; it was the very most God could do to save us. Make this the hour you first believed.
