50 Shades of Grey Is Getting To Your Daughter First. Here's What You Can Do About It!

50 Shades of LIES
The book and movie "50 Shades of Grey" has been out long enough for most of us to get the point. I have not read the book nor seen the movie, nor have plans to, but it seems to me that the storyline is not as much about sex as it is satan. Brenda Rodgers is an author with a very different objective than our 50 Shades counterpart. Brenda's beliefs are strong in that we need to teach our DAUGHTERS how to pursue Jesus as their identity. Rather than the power struggle portrayed in 50 Shades. Amen, Brenda!
Rather than focusing on whether or not married mothers should be reading / watching this pornography (for lack of a better word), let's talk about our DAUGHTERS and what they are internalizing because of these sorts of movies.
What's ironic, is our culture is 'screaming' for equal rights for women as it relates to money, power, control and careers. BUT this story has nothing to do with women in control at all. In fact, this portrayal is all about woman GIVING themselves away to men who treat them with, not respect but abuse and oppression.
Brenda is very clear in her opinion that satan has orchestrated this book and movie. Satan is the father of lies as scripture teaches us in John 8: 44. "He (satan) was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies."
Satan first deceived Eve in the garden and he's been pursuing women ever since. He attacks our confidence, our self worth and fills our minds with lies...daily.
Our identity has been a target for years and it's starts earlier than you might guess. Our girls are being taught that how they look, how they dress, how they think is critical to their acceptance.
"By default, girls are not becoming stronger; they are becoming weaker."
The way to prevent this is by speaking truth to our daughters starting at an early age. She needs to know that her identity is not at all based on her body or physical appearance. Her mind needs to be saturated with truth from God's Word that tells her exactly who she is in Him. She needs to be fully armed with the Sword of the Spirit and the Armor of God so that she learns to counter lies with God's Word
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." Ephesians 6: 10-18
Everything our children learn about sexuality, should come from us as their parents. We should be the ones putting it all out on the table, even the most embarrassing or disgusting acts, and holding them up against God’s Word. Because you see, sexual immorality isn’t a behavioral issue, it’s a heart issue.
"We are the ones who should be getting to our daughters’ hearts first!"
And, when we as moms engage in this 50 Shades-sort of reading material, rather than God's word, our girls are watching us and noticing. It begins to normalize in our minds preventing us from giving our daughters the wise counsel they need.
Peter writes, “prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit” (1 Peter 1:13). We are to prepare our minds and keep sober in spirit so that we can lead our daughters in truth and holiness.
As Christians, we are called to holiness. We are called to be set apart from the world’s standards (1 Peter 1:13-16). This is what we want for our daughters, so it must start with us. God created us to be sexual and spiritual. This is what we need to be teaching our daughters.
