Home-Schooled 12-Year-Old Graduates High School and Gets College Degree

She's one of the youngest people to have both high school and college diplomas–a 12-year-old graduates high school and gets a college degree.

Can you imagine how incredibly smart, gifted, and dedicated Sawsan Ahmed is? She’s not only smart but she’s proving to thousands of parents and kids that homeschooling can be a great way to achieve academic goals.

Her parents noticed when Sawsan was a baby, she was hitting milestones early. Everything from learning how to walk and talk to even reading and writing by the age of two. Most two-year-olds are getting the hang of learning to talk and potty train.

When her parents realized how smart their daughter was, they began homeschooling her. As she flew with the material and subjects with flying colors, her parents thought she could do college courses.

At first, they started with one course. And over time, as Sawsan’s confidence in herself grew, she enrolled full-time in college.

Incredibly, the 12-year-old graduated from Broward College with an associate degree and a 4.0 GPA. But her degree didn’t come without a few challenges. For example, most of her classmates didn’t take her seriously at first. But by the end of the first semester, those college students were coming to her for help.

“At the very beginning, everyone was helping me, calling me 'honey,' 'sweetie,' things like that," she committed. "But by the end of the semester, all of the other students were asking me for help on questions.”

Her professor, Amber Abels, an assistant biology professor at Broward College added, "The thing I remember most is that she was always ready to do lab work every day, like, exceptionally excited. It was great. She was more than able to keep up and was an excellent student.”

12-Year-Old Graduate Has Big Plans

Now that she has her associate's degree, Sawsan has plans to earn her medical degree and a doctorate. She wants to help save lives through artificial intelligence. But of course, she has other dreams too, like going back to Disney World and doing stuff kids her age do too like video games, enjoying art, and music!

This won’t be the last time we hear about this incredibly gifted and bright girl. I’m sure the plans and purpose God has for her will make headlines again in the future and we can’t wait to see how she uses her talents to help make this world a better place!

A Prayer for Dealing with Family Rejection This Holiday Season - Your Daily Prayer - December 5

One of the best times of the year can also be one of the most difficult. Harvest décor leads into Christmas bells and lights. We fill the calendar slots with parties and events. This can create a low-level hum of anxiety if the upcoming family get-togethers feel like a risky walk through a minefield.
