101-Year-Old Survived Coronavirus and Spanish Flu

Not many of us can say that we have ever experienced a pandemic or historical occurrence quite like the coronavirus. There really hasn’t ever been anything close to this since The Spanish Flu back in 1918-1920.  But one 101-year-old survived coronavirus and the Spanish Flu!

People worldwide are falling ill spiritually and physically. Even scarier, the virus appears to be a bigger threat to people over 60, but don’t tell that to Mr. P. Mr. P is a citizen of Italy, 101 years old, and he recently recovered from his personal battle with the virus. Against all odds, Mr. P miraculously overcame his infection, despite his age and despite Italy being one of the worst infected places in the world.

Gloria Lisi, vice mayor of Rimini, shared that Mr. P was released from the hospital saying, "Even at 101 years, the future is not written.” 

Italian hospitals have experienced an overflow of patients, many of whom are elderly. In Italy, many young people live with their elderly family members, making social distancing from those who are most vulnerable even more difficult to manage.

Mr. P has now not only experienced the coronavirus but was actually born into the world during the Spanish Flu outbreak. The Spanish Flu claimed 600,000 Italian lives, with nearly 500 million people dying worldwide from the virus--nearly a quarter of the earth’s population.

101-Year-Old Coronavirus Survivor Inspires Others

Mr. P’s recovery inspires people worldwide that there is still hope for those who acquire the virus, young or old.

The Bible tells us, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9). No one knows our fate except for God. As believers, we can rest assured He is in control of our story today and tomorrow.

With this story of Mr. P, we know to continue to take care of our elderly, our families, and ourselves by practicing social distancing where we can. More importantly, we can pray for the people infected and those affected to survive and to thrive when the pandemic is over.
