Young Girl Honors Late Dad With Original Song On American Idol
Music allows people an opportunity to express a wide range of emotions in a unique and artistic way. That’s just what one young woman did on American Idol.
Cay Aliese, a 24-year-old woman from Tennessee, experienced a devastating loss. She lost her father just a few months prior to her audition to a drug overdose. As she explains before her audition, Cay’s father had struggled with addiction for most of her life.
The 24-year-old Tennessee native said her late father was in and out of her life. However, despite his issues, she states that the love of music was something both shared and bonded over. In fact, her father was assisting her in the production of an original song.
Also, Cay stated that while her father had “record deal after record deal” and appeared on The Voice and America’s Got Talent, she wanted to blaze her own path with American Idol.
Cay played the piano and sang “City of Nashville,” a song she wrote about her late father during her audition.
The young woman has a ton of musical talent. She has a terrific voice, can play the piano and can obviously write songs. However, the judges were lukewarm toward Cay’s audition.
Katy Perry and Lionel Richie stated they did not feel the emotion behind the words. They got the story but just wanted more from the young woman.
“I didn’t feel emotionally connected, but you have a really good voice,” Katy said. “Just bring the emotion.”
In the end, all three judges felt the young woman had too much talent to deny her and sent her to the next round of the competition. Lionel, Katy and Luke Bryan gave her three yes votes.
Losing a loved one, no matter the circumstances, is always difficult. We wish Cay the best throughout the competition!
Ephesians 5:19 “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”
