Iam Tongi Touches Hearts With ‘Father And Son’ Performance

Iam Tongi, one of the few remaining American Idol contestants, gave the judges and the studio audience a heartwarming rendition of a Cat Stevens classic.

Americans are voicing their opinions, texting in their votes for who they believe should be the next American Idol. What started out as hundreds have now been slimmed down to just three – Megan Danielle, Colin Stough and Iam.

It should come as a surprise that Iam is one of the few still standing. He has consistently given heartfelt, moving performances, using his soulful voice to win over Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and the studio audience.

Iam’s latest appearance on the program came during Disney night, an evening where the contestants performed songs from Disney films and TV shows. Iam, with guitar in hand, sang “Father and Son,” which was in the second “Guardians of the Galaxy” film.

It was a beautiful, but sweet, simple and stripped-down performance. Iam’s voice shined through and since that has gotten him this far in the competition, it was a good move on his part. The crowd also seemed to enjoy it as they erupted in applause and cheers, showing the young man well-deserved appreciation.

In addition to his voice and abundance of musical talent, Iam has also shown a knack for song selection. He always seems to be able to pick the perfect song for his voice and the moment. That was certainly the case with this performance.

Iam, who has mentioned his late father several times throughout the season, knocked this one out of the park. His fabulous rendition, plus knowing how much and likely how difficult it was for the young man to sing this song, added an extra layer to the performance. Iam has grown into an artist during the competition.

Ephesians 5:19 “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”
