25-Year-Old Captivates with ‘Easy’ by The Commodores on American Idol
On American Idol, a 25-year-old captivated the judges with “Easy” by The Commodores. The young performer turned in a brilliant and outstanding cover performance of the beloved tune from the 1970s. Watch the short clip to see the stunningly powerful and delightful performance.
Shows like American Idol, America’s Got Talent and The Voice are full of people who hope to make it in the music industry. They hope they have been blessed with enough talent and ability to help them get on the show. All any of them are looking for is a chance to make their dreams a reality. Sadly, not everyone who tries out for those shows has what it takes.
While someone’s talent level is the most significant determining factor in whether they make it on the show, other things can and do play a role. For instance, song choice is likely the next biggest decision that impacts whether someone makes it onto the show or not. Some tunes will work better with someone’s voice and talent than others.
In a clip posted on YouTube, Sonny Tennet, a 25-year-old aspiring musician, made a bold choice regarding his audition song. He selected “Easy” by The Commodores. Of course, Lionel Richie was a member of that group and wrote that song. Singing “Easy” in front of the writer of it could go either one of two ways. It was a gamble, for sure.
But it was a gamble that paid off in a big way. Almost immediately after he started singing, the judges were won over. They gave one another knowing glances. The young man's voice has a beautiful tone, making it seem like he could sing nearly anything.
However, Sunny received the biggest compliment from Lionel. After his audition, Lionel told the young man, “You made my song, your song!”
Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
