Man Working at Walgreens Saves Woman From Scam After Noticing Something Strange

A man working at Walgreens notices something strange and saves a woman from a scam. This is one of those stories that makes your heart feel good—thank God, there are still good people in the world. It also reminds you that some heroes don’t wear capes; they wear name tags.

Like Cody Moore, a Walgreens shift lead in Farmington Hills, Michigan, who started his shift like any other—until he noticed something off with one of his regulars. She was buying $500 worth of gift cards, which was out of the ordinary for her. Then came the phone calls from an unsaved California number. Cody could’ve brushed it off. He could’ve rung up her purchase and said nothing. But instead, he stepped in.

He Saved the Woman From a Scam

"I informed her that it was obviously a scam and not to answer that," Cody said.

He didn’t just stop a scam; he stood in the gap—for someone’s grandma, for someone who was worried sick and didn’t know who to trust, for someone who could’ve been anyone’s someone. Cody’s alertness and compassion saved her from a trap designed to steal not just money but dignity and peace of mind.

And isn’t that the kind of love we’re all called to? The pay-attention, act-with-empathy, speak-up-for-the-vulnerable kind?

Thank Goodness For Those Who Step In

Becky Ulcinski, who witnessed the moment unfold, said, “She said, ‘Thank you so much. You’re a good person. I have been worried about this all day…’”

And Mayor Theresa Rich was right when she said, “There’s a special room in hell for people who target the elderly.” But thank God for the ones who still choose to stand in the gap. The ones like Cody, who say, “We’re stopping this right here.”

Cody said it best: “I do have grandmas and they are elderly, and I would want someone to step in and help them.”

Thankful For the Codys of the World

Today we thank God for the Codys of the world—for the way He places protectors in aisles, behind counters, and beside those who feel alone.

Thank you, Cody, for living this verse loud and clear.
