Twin brothers both pop the question just days apart without planning to do so. In the quiet rhythms of life on the Thiele Dairy Farm in Pennsylvania, twin brothers William and James, sixth-generation farmers, have always shared a deep bond. But their latest shared moment–a back-to-back proposal to their girlfriends felt more like serendipity than planning.
"People have asked us if we planned it that way, and we honestly didn't plan it that way, it just kinda happened that way,” William said.
The Twin Brothers Popped The Question

James, known for his steady presence and thoughtful gestures, was the first to propose. On December 21, 2024, he took Marella, his girlfriend of two years, ice skating at The UPMC Rink at PPG Place in Pittsburgh. To Marella, it seemed like one of their regular holiday outings. After an hour on the ice, James led her to the Christmas tree at the rink’s center. He pretended to retrieve hand warmers from his pocket and pulled out a ring instead. Marella’s tears of joy spoke volumes as she immediately said yes.
Just four days later, William proposed to his girlfriend, Katie, at her family’s Christmas gathering. With help from Katie’s parents and brother, William hid the ring on a personalized drone ornament—an homage to his work as the farm’s “drone guy.” William dropped to one knee as Katie retrieved the ornament from the tree. Overwhelmed, Katie accepted through happy tears as her family captured the moment.
James and Marella plan to wed in the fall, while William and Katie haven’t set a date yet. The Thiele twins’ shared milestones remind us of life’s beautifully unexpected harmonies that happen moment by moment. It’s proof that God authors our stories in ways far sweeter than we could ever imagine. Let the wedding bells ring!
