She Decided to Look for Her Birth Mother and Reunited with Grandma Days Before Her Death
May 18, 2023

Rachel Ruiz's search for birth family took a long time and a lot of digging. But she ended up reuniting with them just in time!
At the heart of the Gospel message is adoption. God has adopted all of us into His family. It says much to love, shelter, clothe, and feed a child whose blood you don’t share.

Imagine how much more it meant to God when he gave his own son up so that we could call God our heavenly father.
In this story, Rachel Ruiz is the picture of being adopted. Her birth family lovingly gave her up at two weeks old. Her mother wrote a letter which Rachel received on her 18th birthday. Rachel didn’t mind that she was adopted. Her parents filled her life with love. Over a decade after receiving the letter, Rachel set out to find her birth mom. She merely wanted to search for and know who her birth family was.

“I didn’t feel like I needed to find answers to complete myself, but I’m so happy I found my birth family,” she said.
In an incredible turn of events, using a DNA test and Facebook, the now 35-year-old found her mom. On Christmas day, she got a response to a message she had sent to her birth mom.
“I woke up on Christmas day, and she had replied. I immediately started bawling," Rachel recalled. She continued, "I sent her a picture of the letter she wrote me, and she replied, ‘I can’t believe it’s you, you’ve found me, what a miracle.'”

It thrilled Rachel to meet her birth mother, Angie, in person. The search for her birth family brought more blessings than she could have imagined.

Angie and Rachel chatted for hours before Angie took Rachel to meet her 91-year-old grandmother Mary. No one realized at that moment how incredibly special their time together was. A mere three days later, Mary left her earthly body to meet with Jesus.
Her grandmother’s passing ushered waves of a new family for Rachel. “It was like it was her final life mission. I went to the funeral, and I met my cousins, aunts, and uncles,” she said.
Even though Rachel had precious little time with her grandmother, she is now surrounded by the love of her adopted family and, finally, her birth family. She is incredibly blessed. I imagine Mary passed, knowing her family was finally together. What a special gift to receive days before her passing.
