Farmer Proposes From the Air With 13-Acre Corn Maze Message

Tim Sullivan made the most of his career as a farmer by proposing with a corn maze. When he took his girlfriend sky high in a small airplane, he finally got to show her what he’d been working on for months—a giant cornfield displaying the words, “Will You Marry Me, Caroline?”

Planning the proposal was no small feat. The proposal, which also included an ornate flower and pumpkin design, spanned 13 acres and was a part of Tim’s family’s annual corn maze.

“I wanted to do something big, something she’d never forget," said Tim, who's now happily engaged. "Seeing her face when she realized what it said—I’ll never forget that moment."

Tim proposed on August 5th. He had planned the proposal since April and began working on the design on June 3 using a computerized tractor.

Leading up to the big moment, Tim was nervous that his field would catch the attention of other flyers, who might post a photo on social media. Fortunately, that never happened.

When they first passed over the field, Caroline was looking out the opposite window, so Tim asked the pilot to circle back.

Girlfriend Delighted When She Finally Sees the Message

Tim says Caroline’s face lit up when she saw the message.

"I was just like so amazed that somebody put that much effort into planning a proposal like that," she said. "I expected he would do something quite elaborate and intentional, but nothing to that extreme by any means."

When they landed, Tim completed the proposal by getting down on one knee. Caroline answered him, “Yes!” and sealed it with a kiss.

The couple both work for agricultural companies—Tim at Corteva Agriscience and Caroline at WinField United.

A Romantically Corny Ending

"It was only fitting that our proposal would happen with the cornfield,” Caroline said.

“We both really like corn a lot—not to be corny—I wanted it to do something we would both be able to remember for the rest of our lives,” Tim said.

The couple plans to wed in early summer of 2026. The maze message is open to the public this fall at Circle S Farms in Ohio.

Who knew a cornfield could be so romantic? Tim executed a truly grand gesture that the couple will surely cherish the rest of their lives. Many happy congratulations to this farming family-to-be!
