Husband Pays For 40 Pet Adoptions At Shelter For His Wife's 40th Birthday

While some women prefer jewelry or date nights for their birthdays, one husband knew his wife would appreciate his sponsorships of pet adoptions for her birthday. Andrew Duhe understood the assignment. He gave his wife something that would surely benefit many sweet animals and touched her heart immensely!

Andrew and Jennifer Duhe share a love for animals, and they’ve been volunteering for Chesapeake Animal Services for over a year now. Jennifer joked with MSN, “We have fun and it doesn’t just help the animals. I think it really helps us. It’s like a cheap, cost-effective alternative to marriage therapy.”

The Couple Recently Lost One of Their Own Dogs

In addition to helping at the adoption center, the couple have dogs of their own. However, they recently lost one of their beloved pets and have been grieving their loss. With Jennifer’s 40th birthday coming up, Andrew thought of a way to cheer her up and help heal her broken heart.

Andrew shared, “My wife’s love for animals is really, I’d say above and beyond. Trying to find something that was meaningful and practical and everything. And as much work as we do here, it kind of hit close to home for us. We just wanted to really do something great and also to show how wonderful she is as a person too.”

After checking with the volunteer coordinator and learning that the center had 40 kennels, Andrew thought it made perfect sense; he would pay the adoption fees for 40 dogs for Jennifer’s 40th birthday! Those fees could total over $4,000!

Jennifer’s Husband Knew Her Heart By Paying For the Pet Adoptions For Her Birthday

Jennifer was thrilled with her husband’s generous gift, saying, “It is so nice to know that he just understood in my heart, that’s what I value most, you know, and he’s supportive enough to even do a gesture like that, which was very big. And it just really meant a lot.”

The Duhes have already paid for ten adoptions, and they hope their gift will encourage other potential pet parents to visit the center and the amazing animals there. Nothing would make Jennifer happier than to know that 40 pets are placed in loving homes because of her husband’s gift on her 40th birthday!
