A Stranger Asked A Grieving Mom Something Shocking, But Her Response. . . WOW!

All Lives Are Important In God’s Eyes
When little Eva was born, her mother, Tessa Prebble, knew from prenatal scans that there were going to be issues. But she did not know just how rocky the road was that laid before her. And I’m sure she never expected to be defending the value of her daughter’s life to a stranger.
Her darling girl, nicknamed Peanut, was born with a very rare genetic disorder called CHARGE syndrome. It causes a slew of complex medical and physical complications which vary by child. For poor little Eva, the disorder left her blind, deaf, and with heart and brain defects. But as Tessa looked down on her precious baby, she saw nothing short of a miracle. She was completely smitten with her little peanut.
Sadly, Eva only lived for just 10 short months before the Lord called her home. The months were riddled with doctor's appointments, hospital stays, and medical equipment. But Eva’s sweet smiles, baby babbles, and loving cuddles carried her mother through. She loved her dearly and was thankful for every minute that God had given them with her.
And that’s exactly why Tessa was so taken aback by a question she recently received when telling a man about Eva. After hearing her story, the man asked if she felt relief after Eva died. Tessa's initial response was to explain what a happy baby Eva was, trying to describe some of the beautiful moments that they shared. She went on to say:
'Trying to define her worth by saying she was a happy baby is not enough to me now. Her life had quality and an essence all its own. She was a person. She didn’t have to be happy for anyone else but herself. She didn’t have to prove anything to anyone. She showed people a lot, but that wasn’t her duty. She existed and experienced and laughed and loved. . .
Eva was a person who I was excited to see grow and develop in whatever way she saw fit. She would have had challenges, and I was ready and willing to help her face them. I was looking forward to trying to make the world fit her, rather than the other way round.
Eva was not my burden. So no, I don’t feel relieved.'
After reading Eva’s story, I thought of this verse:
Psalm 22:9-10, "But it was you who took care of me from the day of my birth: you gave me faith even from my mother's breasts. But it was you who took care of me from the day of my birth: you gave me faith even from my mother's breasts."
No matter how short or how small, all life has value. It is a gift from God, and we should cherish it at every turn.
