Dad Whose Daughter Died After Transplant Gives Kidney to Another Little Girl

Giving a stranger one of your kidneys is quite an act of kindness. One Dad decided to give back after he lost his own daughter, Sarah, saving the life of another little girl. His sacrifice was indeed a blessing for the little girl and her family.

Andy Emmott, 55, lost his daughter Sarah when she passed away at eight years old after her own kidney transplant. She had been battling congenital nephrotic syndrome as well as other complex health problems, spending much of her life at Lees General Infirmary and Martin House Hospice.

Sarah secured a kidney transplant after a campaign supported by Leeds United, a soccer team, and football player Kalvin Phillips. Sadly, she passed away exactly 364 days after receiving it.

“I donated a kidney because a kind stranger donated one to my daughter,” Andy says. “I saw the appeal for Amber and there were so many similarities between Amber and Sarah that I felt I just had to put myself forward and luckily, I was a very good match.”

Andy is now recovering well and has returned to work at Northern Powergrid. His manager even commented on what he had done for Amber. “I am scared stiff to donate blood, so to donate a kidney is amazing,” Amanda White shared. “As a team we are really proud of Andy, and we wish both him and Amber a full and speedy recovery.”

Andy Also Raised Funds For a Children’s Charity

In addition to donating a kidney, Andy also worked to raise funds for Theodora Children’s Charity. “Theodora Children’s Charity supported Sarah during her numerous stays on the children’s ward at Leeds General Infirmary. They brought so much joy and laughter to her and were a great distraction…” he shares.

It’s inspiring to know that people are still out there making a difference in a world that can sometimes feel so dark.
