Lost Dog is Found Using His 93-Year-Old Owner's Dirty Socks

One man and a Los Angeles dog rescue organization had a very clever idea to find his lost dog using his dirty socks...And it worked. After 7-year-old Sunny, a yellow lab, smelled her owner’s old footwear, she came running home.

Adventurous Pup Gets Out After Owner Leaves For the Store

Norm Feigenbaum, 93, went on a grocery run when Sunny decided she wanted to tag along. She hopped his house’s back wall and was on the loose for over a week.

Norman partnered with Dog Days Search and Rescue, and they put up posters.

"After several days, I really thought she was gone," Feigenbaum said. "The house was barren without her."

After one week had passed, they discovered that Sunny was in a nearby nature preserve, one mile away. The preserve has limited water and coyotes. The organization set up dog traps to get her back.

But what finally lured Sunny to those traps? Norm’s “smelly” socks.

Lost Dog Found Using Dirty Socks

“The whole thing is probably due to my smelly socks, actually," Norm said.

Dog Days left a trail of his socks leading to the trap, and just 30 minutes later, Sunny was rescued from the cage.

Norm was overjoyed to have Sunny back, who sustained a few cuts and bruises on her adventure.

Norm joked that he’ll commemorate Sunny’s return in a special way.

"I'm not going to wash [the socks],” he said. “I'm going to put them in a frame and hang them on the wall."

Dog Days is helping Norm repair his wall so that Sunny doesn’t escape again.

“We would love to see if we could get some volunteers to come out and do some major clean up of Norm's overgrown yard and make some necessary modifications to prevent this from happening at any point in the future,” the organization said.

Well, let’s hope Sunny doesn’t escape again...But if she does, they’ll know the best way to catch her!
