Daughter's Prayer Beautifully Explains The Season Of Waiting

Sometimes God asks us to wait, though it's not always clear why. Rebekah Fox and her husband had to wait for their precious little girl, Selah. They didn't know why, until one day, Rebekah overheard her sweet daughter's prayer. And in that honest, beautiful moment, Selah showed that God will always make the waiting worth it!

Rebekah Fox writes about God and her struggle with infertility on her blog, Barren To Beautiful. It's a place where she offers encouragement and hope.

Rebekah and her husband waited and prayed through many years of infertility before they got their little miracle, Selah. In the midst of all of the waiting, like most of us, Rebekah couldn't help but ask God, "Why?"

It was actually 3-year-old Selah who answered that question! And Rebekah shared the beautiful moment in one of her blog posts.

Daughter's Prayer Of Thanks

She was painting the garage, and Selah was keeping her company, coloring with chalk on the cement floor. Her mom says Selah is often reluctant to pray out loud. But that day, she spontaneously burst into prayer all on her own.

Her tiny voice lifted to God with the following heartfelt prayer:

“God, thank you for giving my mommy to me. And thank you (I couldn’t understand this part.) And thank you, she makes me breakfast. And thank you we’re going to make pumpkin spagotti (biscotti). I hope it tastes good. Do you think it will taste good, God?”

Her daughter's spontaneous prayer caught Rebekah completely off guard. It immediately brought tears to her eyes to hear such pure gratitude pouring out of the little girl they loved so much.

"Today she felt something inside her," Rebekah wrote. "Something beautiful. Her little heart can hold more love than I often know."

But the incredible moment was about to get even more powerful!

A Reason For The Waiting

Little Selah asked her mommy if she knew why God took so long to give her a baby. Rebekah had told her story of infertility with Selah before. And when Rebekah explained this time that she didn't know why she'd had to wait so long, Selah surprised her with a simple yet powerful response.

“'I know why,' she said.

'Why?' I asked.

'Because…He was making me,' she said."

It's amazing how such incredible wisdom can come from children. Their pure hearts often see things in ways we can't. And little Selah remind us that while waiting for God isn't easy, it's always worth it!

"But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
