Before Dad Passed Away He Bought His Son One Last Amazing Gift

Our parents love us more than we know. Sometimes they are taken from us too early in life. This son was brought to tears when he found out his dad bought him an amazing gift for his sixteenth birthday. Sadly, his Dad passed away before giving it. Johnny and Chandler's father, John, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on April 1.  Johnny was with him when it happened and had performed CPR before the rescue crews arrived. [rsnippet id="3" name="Article-Ad"] Unknown to his family, John had purchased a very special gift for his son's sixteenth birthday. The two had bonded over music, with John taking his son every week to his guitar lessons.  Johnny is a budding musician and his father was a huge supporter of his son's dream. He wanted Johnny to have the guitar of his dreams on his birthday so John had ordered it months in advance without telling anyone! After John passed away, Johnny's sister, Chandler, was contacted by Port Huron Music Center. They told her about the surprise purchase her father had made for Johnny.  After getting over the emotional shock, she had to keep the secret for almost a month until his actual birthday!

“Johnny has been wanting this guitar for a while. He would joke with my dad about getting it in the future,” she told HuffingtonPost. “He was a HUGE supporter of Johnny’s music dream and lived for his family. My dad would tell everyone that he knew Johnny was going to be famous one day and worked hard to get him there.”

Surprising Johnny

On Johnny's birthday, Chandler picked him up from school and took him blindfolded to the music store.  She videoed the moment he received a birthday card signed "Love, Dad".  As he reads it aloud, the whole room is silent.

"The happiest moments, the closest friends and family, the sweetest memories... May they all be a special part of your birthday and an even bigger part of your year! Happy Sweet 16!"

It's obvious that Johnny doesn't exactly understand what is happening around him. The card alone was such a sweet moment. Then Chandler asks him, "Are you ready to see your present?" [rsnippet id="3" name="Article-Ad"] [/slide] In the video you can see Johnny's hand shaking as he sets the card down and turns his attention to the counter.  The store associates are busy pulling a large black guitar case out of it's shipping container. Everyone in the room is silent while they do this and Johnny appears to be completely in shock by what is going on before him. credit: Chandler Mae Crow When the staff lay the case on the counter to open it, Johnny gently touches the outside still seemingly in shock as the music store staff begin to open it.  That's when Chandler speaks up to clarify what Johnny is seeing.

"Dad bought it for you for your birthday, before he passed away"

That's when Johnny begins to break down while staring his brand-new, Dean Razorback black guitar.  What a special gift from his biggest cheerleader, now watching from Heaven, his Dad.

Chandler can be heard in the video saying, "Happy Birthday, Buddy"

When Chandler posted the video to her Facebook page she never expected to receive the attention that it did. Within one day the video had more than 5 million views! Everyone was so moved by Johnny's reaction to his gift and wanted to encourage him and send along their best birthday wishes.

"It's good to feel you're not alone in this," Johnny told USA Today. 

He said that the overwhelming support from internet viewers has helped him to cope with his father's passing.

"I discovered music and it was amazing how it made me feel," he said. "It made that sadness go away, it made me more like my father, who I so aspired to be.
