After a Scary Emergency Surgery, This Dad Made it in Time to See His Son Being Born

A new dad makes his son's birth just in the nick of time after an appendix removal surgery. He was able to get to the delivery room, though still in his bandages and hospital socks, to be with his wife during the birth just in time.

Expectant Dad Wakes Up With Appendicitis

The new dad, Matt Sharp, was rushed to HonorHealth Sonoran Hospital in Phoenix, AZ, with a case of appendicitis. He had surgery later the same day.

“I woke up. I was like shaking and kind of sweaty. I’m like ‘Okay, something’s not right here,’” he recalled. It was just hours after his emergency surgery that he’d get the call that his wife was in labor.

When Matt got the call, he immediately paged his nurse. “Hey, I need you guys to break me out of here ASAP,” he said. “I was still waiting on one more signature from a doctor to release me.”

Dad Makes Son's Birth Just in Time After Surgery

Soon, he was escorted to the delivery room, where he got to be there for his wife when she gave birth to their son, Colton, weighing 7 pounds, 2 ounces.

“That was something I did not want to do alone… He was there at the nick of time,” his wife said. “It was perfect. It was really perfect.”

“The timing was good,” Matt said happily. His wife agreed, “It was good.”

Yes, it definitely was! They likely would have had a lot of anxiety if they were not able to be together for the delivery. Thank God that they could be reunited in time and are enjoying their new baby boy.
