5-Year-Old Boy is Returned Home After Making His Way to Chick-Fil-A For Breakfast

A little 5-year-old boy woke up one day and decided he wanted Chick-fil-A for breakfast, so he walked there all on his own. When police returned him home, his parents were shocked to find that he had let himself out the front door and had gone there by himself.

William, a 5-year-old Florida resident, had woken up before everyone else in the household, squeezed through his front fence, and walked to the nearby Chick-fil-A.

The staff greeted him, served him breakfast, and let the police know he was there.

"Officers Kelly and Perri found little William happily enjoying breakfast and lots of attention from the staff," the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

The Officers Took Him Home

"I have children, and you know, the first thing, you know, you get that knot in your stomach because somebody else who's a parent is missing their child," said Officer Perri.

The officers took William on a drive and asked him to point out which house he lives at.

"Are you going to get me to jail?" the 5-year-old asked nervously.

The officers laughed and assured him they would not.

Parents Shocked That Their 5-Year-Old Left Home

William’s house was one of the most secure on his street, and his parents were shocked to find the officers there when they opened their door.

“It’s kind of scary, actually, because we didn’t realize what was going on until after,” his mom, Victoria, said.

Victoria told the officers William had never left the house by himself before.

“I know he knows how to get to Chick-fil-A because we walk there,” Victoria said. “I would’ve never expected him to come down here on his own in the morning before anybody else in the house was up.”

They Went Back to Chick-fil-A

“I was worried about him, because, was he scared, was he crying was he upset? He was quiet, which was unusual for him," William’s dad, Phil, said. "I think he understood that it was serious, but we did talk about it."

Later, William, his family, and the officers had a reunion at Chick-fil-A, where they shared a meal, and William gave them homemade cookies.

God was watching over William as he walked to the Chick-fil-A. I’m sure he knows now not to leave the house without a grown-up!
