A Woman Ordered DoorDash, Then Stepped in to Help the 78-Year-Old Man Who Delivered It

When a 78-year-old doordasher from Manchester, New Hampshire, dropped off some food for his customer, Brittany, she saw on her doorbell camera that it was no easy task for him. She contacted him to learn more and found out he had been forced out of retirement. So she started a GoFundMe to get him back into retirement.

“Richard delivered Starbucks to my home via DoorDash, and it was evident from the video this was a task for him. With the help of social media I was able to track down Richard and learned he does DoorDash due to his wife being fired from her job (at no fault of her own) and by the time they pay their monthly expenses plus purchase their medication there is nothing left,” Brittany said. “Let’s help Richard go back into retirement!!”

She said, “He is precious and he is not working because he wants to. He’s working [because] he has to."

Brittany helped raise almost $1 million dollars for the DoorDasher, Richard Pulley, which surprised all of them.

"When you’re past your mid-70s, there’s not exactly a line of people waiting to hire you," Richard’s wife of 56 years, Brenda, said

The support is “taking a lot of pressure off of us,” Richard said, adding that it’s “making life livable once again.”

"It’s just really difficult to believe that there’s that many people that are that generous to try to help us," Brenda said. "People that don’t even know us." She said of Brittany, “I just can’t believe that someone would be that caring to set this up for us.”

Brittany’s reasons for helping aren’t complicated. "I don’t know. It’s just I love this man,” she said

Elderly Doordasher Receives Special Gift from CEO

After learning about Richard’s story, DoorDash CEO Tony Xu reached out to thank Richard for completing nearly 6,000 deliveries. The company also donated $20,000 to Richard and sent him a gift to thank him.

Brittany gave an update on the donations on March 20th. “Today Richard was gifted the check for your generous donations! You all made it possible for him to retire and live comfortably for the remainder of his life! Humanity is not a thing of the past!” she said

What a beautiful act of kindness. It would be wonderful if all elderly people were cared about like Richard and Brenda have been!
