12 Christian Songs for a Wedding Ceremony
May 30, 2014

It’s an awesome opportunity for Christian couples to provide music that speaks of their love for God and each other. Music is a beautiful expression of the mystery and intimacy of love between a man and a woman. Yet for the Christian couple, it’s also a chance to share the gospel of the love of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit for all people.
#1) Lost Without You (Bebe and Cece Winans, 1988)
“When I found the one my heart loves” (Song of Solomon 3:4).
When Adam finished naming all the animals, it was the first time he realized that there was no one for him. In a sense he was lost until God brought him Eve. Those whom God has called to be married become complete in Christ and in each other.
#2) Unfailing Love (Jimmy Needham, 2008)
“Let his banner over me be love” (Song of Solomon 2:4).
Those who seek after the worldly type love (sensual and selfish) quickly find themselves frustrated with all its conditions. Yet the unfailing love of Christ for His church is mirrored in the unconditional love a husband has for His wife. She will become the woman God meant for her to be under the banner of agape love from her husband.
#3) Song of Solomon (Ben Tankard, 2001)
“The season of singing has come” (Song of Solomon 2:12)
The proliferation of love songs in every culture underscores how music influences the love of a man and woman. Singing with and to each other especially in times of worship unite a couple in a deeper spiritual connection. Most couples have “their” song—the one that binds and seals their souls as one.
#4) Household of Faith (Steve Green, 1994)
“The beams of our house are cedars” (Song of Solomon 1:17).
A couple coming together in Christ has the strongest potential of building a household of faith. Their children’s children will bear the mark of godliness and continue throughout the generations to proclaim Christ. The home built on the foundation of Christ will have problems just like everyone else—but they will survive the tough storms of life.
#5) How Much You Mean to Me (Ted and Sherri, 2004)
“If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned” (Song of Solomon 8:7).
When a man loves a woman as Christ loves the church—he demonstates a priceless value on their relationship. In turn, she responds to him with sincere respect and willingness to help him become the man of God that he was created to be. The initimacy of their relationship should be carefully guarded and cherished as something worth more than all the gold on the earth.
#6) When God Made You (Newsong, 2005)
“Take me away with you—let us hurry” (Song of Solomon 1:4).
With united prayer and consistent study of God’s word—the couple’s relationship will take on a new pattern of forming each other’s personalities as one. They will see God’s hand in bringing them together not just for companionship or procreation, but for revealing the mystery of how the church is to become more like Christ
#7) Usher Me (T.D. Jakes, 1999)
“I would lead you” (Song of Solomon 8:2).
A husband who desires to lead his wife and family spiritually will be supernaturally blessed by God to do so. However he must be willing to submit and humble himself to be the servant leader as Christ was for the disciples. The confidence of his wife will soar as she senses the security of his consistent leadership.
#8) Love Of My Life (Jim Brickman and Michael W. Smith, 1999)
“Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away” (Song of Solomon 8:7).
When love is tested by trial and survives, it only grows stronger and the bind between the Christian couple is more tightly wound. This isn’t the jealous or controlling type of love, but rather a beautiful intertwining of love and respect. There’s no other competition for love in the lives of the Christian couple who are completely committed to each other.
#9) The Best Is Yet To Come (Donald Lawrence, 2002)
“Come, my beloved, let us go to the countryside” (Song of Solomon 7:11).
The wedding and honeymoon are only the very beginning of the journey of marriage. The best is yet to come not necessarily because everything will always go the way they plan. Rather it’s when they learn to ride the rough waves of disagreements and disappoints that their love will be refined and treasured all the more.
#10) I Will Be There (Steven Curtis Chapman, 1989)
“All night long on my bed I looked for the one my heart loves” (Song of Solomon 3:1).
Being a godly couple isn’t just about being together in the same place. It’s being present in spirit, mind, and body—paying close attention to the other partner, listening to what they are saying, and responding in love. Godly couples learn to know what the other needs sometimes without words—that’s love in action
#11) What it Really Means to Love (Kirk Franklin, 1997)
“How beautiful you are and how pleasing, my love, with your delights” (Song of Solomon 7:6).
The love of God to each of His children is revealed in 1 Corinthians 13—patient, kind, slow to anger, wanting the best, etc. As a godly couple gives this same love to each other, to their children, and to others—they reveal the reality of God’s love in sending Christ.
#12) God Gave me You (Dave Barnes, 2010)
“Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires” (Song of Solomon 2:7).
It’s the Lord’s will that couples seek His direction before marrying each other. If couples rush in to arouse love before the right time, they may get ahead of God’s purpose and plan for their marriage. A Christian couples are especially blessed when they’ve waited on God’s gift of marriage.
Wedding Music for the Soul
Wedding music should touch the hearts of the couple getting married. Their united bond of love representing by the music can be used by God for much greater purposes if they consider worship as a part of their ceremony. There’s grace in choosing the right music for a wedding that’s centered on pleasing and giving glory to God for the wonderful gift of marriage.

Knowing how many times I have failed as a mother, I am thankful that, just as our regeneration when the Lord makes us born again, sanctification is a work of the Spirit in our hearts and lives.
