Scott Towaij is a multi-instrumentalist who has been singing, performing and writing music for the past 27 years. He has been in a variety of different bands since the 80s. His writing style merges folk, rock, funk, blues and a even a bit of jazz. His debut Christian album entitled Your love has set me free celebrates the miracle of his salvation. Scott was severely abused throughout his childhood which manifested itself into drug and alcohol abuse, womanizing and involvement with bikers. Scotts salvation was a miracle and his faith testimony is printed inside the CD booklet to help bring others into a relationship with Jesus Christ.
On Your love has set me free Scott has written both completely original songs and new music for some old hymns like All things bright and beautiful, Stand up for Jesus, Souls of men why do you scatter and O heavenly word. He obtained permission to record a new funky version of Theyll know we are Christians by our love which features a screaming blues harp solo. The song, The ARMOUR of God, came straight out of the Book of Ephesians.
So far 11 stations have added Your love has set me free into their regular rotation and there has been lots of positive feedback! Don Mabee at New Song FM loves the disc and is playing both track 3 Your love has set me free and track 12 which Don said is the best remake of Theyll know we are Christians by our love that he has heard in many years. Jim Husan at CKOE 107.3 Christian Hits echoed Dons response and added This CD will be going into my car stereo! Paul Patterson @ CJLU & CITA said As soon as I heard the CD I thought hey, this guy sounds like the singer from Petra! The Petra reference has now been echoed by many others station managers
Interestingly enough this is actually Scotts second album. His 1996 debut secular release entitled Pushing Through the Pavement was dubbed "Politico-Rock Message Music" by the music industry. The song Don't blame me I only live here made it up to position number 7 on a number of rock charts exactly one position higher than Flood by Jars of Clay and received major airplay and specials on 20 FM rock stations across Canada. The disc was also syndicated to all 30 CBC Radio afternoon shows where it was featured.
In addition to this Scott wrote and recorded a song called One step at a time last year for a friend suffering with Parkinson's disease. The song was so well received that it has become the official soundtrack for the Pass the Baton for Parkinson's DVD that promotes the event of the same name in the Ontario school system.
Scott has a real heart for God and has been a community activist and advocate for children for the past 15 years receiving numerous awards from the city of Ottawa. Berrigan Elementary school has created the Scott Towaij award which is given to children annually to acknowledge community involvement. He leads the childrens worship at the Metropolitan Bible Church in Ottawa, Canada for grades 1 to 6 and also serves in mens Ministry.
