Woman's Boyfriend Proposes Right After She Completes a Triathlon, 'It Was Such An Amazing Feeling'

When Cindy Alghawi competed in her first triathlon, she thought the only thing waiting for her at the end of the finish line was a sense of accomplishment and hugs from her parents and boyfriend. But a diamond ring was waiting for her, too. Her athletic adventure turned into a triathlon proposal.

Cindy had competed in the BillBone Olympic Triathlon in West Palm Beach, Fla., on April 12. She swam for 400 meters, cycled for 200 kilometers, and ran for 5 kilometers in just over an hour and a half.

When she got to the finish line, no doubt exhausted, her boyfriend of four years, Hossam Sayegh, was waiting for her on one knee with a bouquet of flowers.

Cindy said, “He gives me roses and I noticed an artificial rose, and he told me to open the rose. I see a beautiful diamond ring.”

"I was feeling accomplished. I was in my own world. I see family, and it was super exhilarating," the 28-year-old said. "He gets on his knee and asks to marry me. It was such an amazing feeling."

Bystanders, Olympians Witnessed the Proposal

To make it even better, the couple got to pose with Olympians Kirsten Kasper and Kevin McDowell, as well as other contestants, after the proposal. 

Cindy signed up for the triathlon because she wanted to motivate herself and make a change in her life. 

A Truly Unforgettable Day

Hossame was impressed and proud of Cindy and thought it would be special to propose to her after the triathlon. He was right.

"The nice thing is I didn't tell anyone around us at the finish line — only her parents knew," Hossam said.

The couple plans to wed next year.
