Thank you for your service! 

This 92-year-old World War II veteran went to Outback Steakhouse on his birthday. And that was enough. Celebrating with his son and two other friends was enough to make this veteran feel loved. But, the restaurant had more in mind and offered a "thank you for your service" like no other. Way to go, Outback!

After the group finished their meal, the waitstaff brought back the check. And what he got was a heartfelt expression of respect that honored the man for his tremendous duty to the nation.

His son, Bob Nieman, shares his story of how the Outback Steakhouses' staff made sure his father felt like his military service was appreciated.

The dad is a “World War II veteran and was a plank owner (crewman) on the USS Lexington."

The Lexington, also known as “Lady Lex” or the “Gray Lady,” was instrumental in fighting the Japanese at the Battle of the Coral Sea. It lost 216 men of its 2,951-man crew during that battle.

On the check is written,  “Thank you for your service!!” and was signed, “Very Grateful Americans.”

“I did 27 years on the Police Dept. and people never cease to amaze me in bad and good ways,” Nieman said. “My Dad is my hero & this was I think more of a happy moment for me than him, seeing someone appreciate him in this way actually brought a tear to my eyes.”

It's these little moments of appreciation that go the farthest. Honoring this man who risked his life for our freedom is who our cheers. And, good for you, Outback, for doing your part in honoring his heroism!
